Membership Regulations

CANDIDATE – A person may be accepted as a Candidate after completing the following requirements:

Payment of the prescribed annual fees and non-refundable application fees in full.
Submission of fully completed application, acknowledgment and other forms.
Note: Candidates are persons who have not completed the qualifying requirements for Associate status; shall not hold themselves as, nor make any reference to affiliation with CAHPI; shall comply with applicable by-laws and regulations of the Association as determined from time to time by the Board of Directors; may receive mailings and attend general meetings but may not vote or hold office: may attend educational programs and conferences provided they pay the applicable administrative fee for such events; are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the standards, professional conduct and other practices of the Association and are subject to disciplinary procedures; may not remain a Candidate for more than 3 years without applying to and receiving permission from the Board of Directors to extend the period of time.

 

ASSOCIATE – A Candidate may be accepted as an Associate after completing the following requirements:

  • Maintained the status of Candidate in good standing for a minimum time period of 6 months.
  • Successful completion of National Home Inspection Examination.
  • Verification of inspection, reporting and ethical procedures.

Note: Associates are persons who have not completed the qualifying requirements for Member status; shall have limited privilege to use the CAHPI logo and refer to CAHPI affiliation all as set out in by-laws and regulations; shall comply with applicable by-laws and regulations of the Association as determined from time to time by the Board of Directors; may receive mailings, attend general meetings and have limited voting and committee privileges but may not hold office; may attend educational programs and conferences provided that they pay the applicable administrative fee for such events; are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the  standards, professional conduct and other practices of the Association and are subject to disciplinary procedures; are required to have Errors and Omissions insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000.00 coverage or any alternative approved by the CAHPI Executive; may not remain an Associate for more than 3 years without applying to and receiving permission from the Board of Directors to extend the period of time. Proof of continuing Errors and Omissions insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000.00 coverage or any alternative approved by the CAHPI Executive must be submitted to the Membership Director within 60 days of the previous policy expiry.

 

REGISTERED HOME INSPECTOR (RHI) – An Associate may be accepted as a RHI after completing the following requirements:

  • Performed a minimum of 250 verifiable fee paid inspections conforming to the CAHPI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Note: Registered Home Inspector persons who have completed the qualifying requirements for RHI status shall have all privileges afforded by the CAHPI Association to its RHI’s in good standing;
must accumulate the set number of “Membership Renewal Credits” annually (MRC’s); are required to have Errors and Omissions insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000.00 coverage or any alternative approved by the CAHPI Executive. Proof of continuing Errors and Omissions insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000.00 coverage or any alternative approved by the CAHPI Executive must be submitted to the Membership Director within 60 days of the previous policy expiry date by either mail, fax or email. Failure to do so will mean immediate suspension from the association
